Dreams and Goals? Why Should I Care About Those?

 January 6, 2022

I get it because I used to feel the same way. You're a busy mom. Who has time for dreams and goals?

My answer? You can't afford to NOT have time for dreams and goals.

Dreams and are what fuel you; what get you up in the morning with enthusiasm. If you aren't jumping up out of bed every morning excited it could be because you don't have a dream and your goals are just things you need to do each day (like get dressed and feed the kids - amIright??).

That is not the way God designed you to live, so let's do something about that, shall we?

God Created You for More

You were not created to live a life by default. God created you for more than that.

He wants you to live a fulfilling life pursuing the dream that He has put on your heart. So often we get bogged down in the busyness of our family life and all that that entails. Then you add on work, school, activities, extended family, health issues and all that equals a life of stress.

But that isn't the way it has to be.

If this is your life, then I beg you to invest in yourself and change it now so you can live a life chasing your dream, conquering your goals and living the life you were created to live.

God has a purpose for your life, a purpose that only you can accomplish, but if you're too tired or too stressed out to even see what that is, then the world will lose out on all that you were created to give.

That's what having dreams and goals is all about: accomplishing what God has deemed to be your contribution to the world.

How Do I Know?

What this dream is? What those goals are?

If you just take some quiet time to reflect, I think you'll know what they are.

Your dream is the thing that God has put on your heart that has been there, pulling at you, for some time now.

It's the thing that baffles your mind when you think about how you would ever accomplish it - it's scary and exciting all at the same time.

And each season of your life can have a different dream. Your dreams and goals are different now that you're a mom than they were when you were single, right? So why stop chasing a dream now that you have a family? Or now that your family is getting older and you're not sure what lies ahead?

If you haven't signed up for my newsletter yet, go do that now! Each month I highlight a different topic that will help you to live a life of wholeness and be the woman God created you to be!

Dreams and Goals for Different Stages

A Mom with Littles

If you're a mom with little kids, you might be thinking that you don't have time for anything for yourself. I mean, you've got people to keep alive and overwhelm to try to manage.

Dreams and goals don't have to be huge undertakings. And during this season of your life they probably won't be (although that's not a guarantee).

Maybe your dream is to homeschool your kids. You can see it in your mind's eye; you know exactly how you want it to be.

Now is the time to start setting the goals in place that will get you to that dream that you have. Use the power of your imagination to set it firmly in place. Then learn the necessary skills you'll need to make that dream a reality.

Learning those skills could be the goals and action steps you take to be ready to start your homeschooling adventure.

Working Mom

Whether you work outside or inside the home, and you have kids, chances are you're stretched pretty thin.

Are you happy doing what you are doing? If yes, then that's fantastic!

If no, then you need to put your dreaming cap on and imagine what you want your life to look like.

  • What needs to change?
  • Do you have a support system to help you?
  • Are there new skills you need to learn to make it happen?
  • Do you have someone to guide you through the transition?

These are some of the things you need to think about in order to make your working life the dream you want it to be. And by working, I'm talking about all moms, whether you homeschool as your job, work for someone else, or are an entrepreneur.

If you're not happy doing what you're doing, then you need to reimagine your dream and set some new goals. It might take awhile to accomplish, but that's okay!

(Almost) an Empty-Nester

This is where I am at. One child still at home that I'm homeschooling. But let's face it, it doesn't take near as much of my time and effort as it used to.

That's why last year I was going through a slump. I knew my life was going to be changing and I just didn't know what to do about it.

How many women find themselves in this situation? There is a big life change and we're left to flounder about. Not having a direction and not knowing where to start.

As I discovered, this time can be a very exciting time. We have a whole new world ahead of us. We just need to imagine what we want it to look like and then figure out the steps that will take us there.

This is the time when we really need to invest in ourselves. We need to brush up on our skills, remember what it was like to think about ourselves and be okay with that. This is such an amazing time and we should be dreaming big dreams and setting big goals.

If you're not doing that, or you don't even know where to start, let me know and we'll have a Dream Strategy Session. We can talk about where you're at, where you'd like to go and what is stopping you from getting there - no strings attached.

And Don't Forget to Teach Your Kids

There's no better way to teach our kids about the importance of dreams and goals than by modeling it for them ourselves.

Oh, if I had grown up with that knowledge, how things would have been different. I would have lived my life by design and not by default.

Don't let your kids live by default. Show them what a life lived by design looks like and they're sure to follow in your footsteps.

I'm here to help you live that life by design. Just contact me when you're ready and we'll get started on a plan that is exactly right for you.
